The Ministry of Agriculture of the Valencian Community has communicated to the agricultural sector a positive for Xylella fastidiosa in the Valencian municipality of Villalonga, in the La Safor region.
The Xylella fastidiosa bacterium continues to expand in the Valencian Community, in such a way that the demarcated area already reaches 135,305 hectares (as of December 31, 2020) in a total of 63 municipalities. In the last year alone, this demarcated area increased by 7,000 hectares, including the terms of Benifallim and Villajoyosa, in addition to registering the aforementioned first outbreak in Villalonga.
The European Union will carry out a new audit in September to assess on the ground the evolution of the work of the Ministry of Agriculture against the bacteria.
