The Regional Council of Puglia (Italy), at the proposal of the Councilor for Agriculture Donato Pentassuglia, has recently given the green light to the creation of a Technical Scientific Committee to work in the fight against Xylella fastidiosa, for which the appointment of its members has been approved. five members.
According to Olimerca, the Committee aims to determine the general lines of research activities, also aimed at identifying host plants, immune or resistant varieties and any method of transmission of the bacteria.
All its members are representatives of the scientific community actively involved in research on the Xylella epidemic in Puglia. Their names and titles are:
– Donato Boscia, head of the Bari section of the Institute for the Sustainable Protection of Plants of the CNR.
– Daniele Cornara, Marie-Curie Global Fellowship Winner Entomologist.
– Andrea Luvisi, Associate Professor of the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences and Technologies of the University of Salento.
– Franco Nigro, Professor of Plant Pathology at the Department of Soil, Plant and Food Sciences at the University of Bari.
– Vito Nicola Savino, president of the ITS Agroalimentare Puglia Foundation, director of the Center for Agricultural Research, Experimentation and Training «Basile Caramia» in Locorotondo (BA) and former dean of the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Bari.
